Shaving, You're Doing it Wrong

Shaving, You're Doing it Wrong

Does shaving feel like a chore?

Let's face it, most of us were probably taught how to shave when we hit puberty. Someone taught us how to shave how they were taught how to shave. Or we taught ourselves but never really questioned whether it was the best way.

There's a lot more to think about in your day than how you shave your body. So, why fix something that isn't broken?

The hair is gone and that's the end goal. Isn't it?

....not 100% the case.

How you shave doesn't just impact the hair that grows back, it also impacts the health of your skin.

Our Founder, Jordan, has been a Barber for 15 years. He has seen the worst of the worst when it comes to shaving. And he has had to teach many people the proper way to shave after they had been shaving the wrong way for decades.

Your skin is your body's largest organ.

You live inside your skin. It's the first layer of defense for your body.

It's extremely uncomfortable to live with dry, itchy, irritated, bumpy, or red skin. It's the first thing people see. Your skin can make or break your self confidence. It's the reason we have a beauty industry in the first place.

We tend to think more about the health of our facial skin. With 10-step regimen's, lotions, serums, oils, sunscreens. There's so many options for taking care of your face. And that is important, but the rest of your skin is just as important!

Shaving can actually feel good, AND prevent itchiness, dryness and bumps.

So, if you want a better way to shave and treat your skin better...

These tips are for you! 🪒

  1. Recognize growth patterns! What direction is your hair growing? Sideways, up, down, pinwheels - take a mental note before you start shaving.
  2. Use an oil (not a foam) so that you can clearly see these growth patterns as your shave - and an oil will nourish and soothe your skin as you shave.
  3. Massage oil into your skin in the opposite direction of your hair growth. This will help stand those hairs up away from the skin.
  4. Shave the first pass in the same direction of your natural growth pattern, shaving with the grain. If it grows down, shave down, etc. This will trim the hair close to the skin without tugging at the follicle.
  5. If you didn’t get the closeness in the shave you're looking for, NOW shave against the grain. Since you already did a pass with the grain, the hair doesn’t have as strong of a structure supporting it. By shaving against the grain on the SECOND pass, it will reduce the amount of irritation and give you the closest shave possible.

Give these tips a try and let us know if you notice a different in your skin!
